Ride to Live

Emily Hofelich is a documentary filmmaker and new media artist exploring concepts related to collective memory and familial bonds. She received a B.F.A in Film and Television from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2007 with a focus in post-production. Emily relocated to New York where she worked as a freelance editor and documentary filmmaker.

Emily discovered her passion for teaching after accepting an adjunct position at Dutchess Community College and was inspired to go back to school for her masters. She received her M.F.A. in the Media Art program at Emerson College in 2015. While there, she explored the convergence of her background in documentary with interactive installations. The product of her studies was a series of experimental films and installations: Brattle (documentary short), Family Archivist (16mm documentary short), Threads (interactive quilt installation), and Senescence (installation). Her thesis culminated into a multimedia installation triptych based on autobiographical events about memory and cultural traditions of Appalachia.

Her passion for filmmaking and education led her to a youth development position as the Digital Arts Specialist at the West End House Boys and Girls Club in Allston, Massachusetts. Emily is also Affiliated Faculty at Emerson College teaching courses in producing, production management, and video production. Her recent work includes an animation titled, Bridges, in collaboration with youth from West End House for Art on the Marquee at the Boston Convention Center. She is currently in pre-production for a new feature-length documentary about farming communities in Kentucky.
