My work exists in the cross section of autobiography, documentary, and installation. I explore topics about defining family and the preservation of cultural heritage, specifically, Appalachia where I was raised. My relationships with people in my community have become a vehicle for examining these topics and studying how traditions are formed. I relate to broader issues through these relationships: gender, domesticity, and the culture of rural America.
I tell the stories I know and they tell the story of me.

Documentary Filmmaker
My documentaries often revolve around the work of artists, cultural crafts, memory, and identity. I enjoy delving into how people preserve and memorialize the past. I utilize many different types of media to tell stories: archival footage, home movies, digital and 16mm film.

Installation Artist
I became fascinated with the creative possibilities of installation and sought to merge it with my documentary filmmaking. I explore placing non-fictional content in a three-dimensional space then adding interactive components to augment the storytelling experience.
